Oil and Gas Decommissioning

The oil and gas decommissioning industry presents a significant economic opportunity for Australia, with projected costs exceeding $60 billion over the coming decades, predominantly in Western Australia. To address this emerging market, C.D. Dodd has strategically invested substantial resources into two processing facilities located near the ports of Ashburton and Dampier.

Our facilities are designed to meet the high standards required by Tier 1 and Tier 2 miners, ensuring safe and efficient decommissioning processes. Our sites are equipped to process and recycle a wide range of materials, ensuring maximum resource recovery and compliance with stringent environmental regulations. Our capabilities in handling complex decommissioning projects position us as a trusted partner for the oil & gas industry as we lead the way in supporting the sustainable and safe dismantling of offshore infrastructure.

Our approach to safe, efficient and sustainable oil and gas decommissioning in WA

1. Establishment of decontamination and recycling facilities in the Pilbara

Our facility in Onslow, located 25 km from the Port of Ashburton, is integrated within the Pilbara Waste Management Facility, a Class 4 landfill. This alignment with industry best practices for handling hazardous waste materials ensures efficient reception and decontamination of recovered subsea infrastructure from offshore projects. Subsequently, these materials are transported for further processing at our Karratha facility, enhancing our operational efficiency and environmental stewardship.

2. Development of specialised flowline and umbilical processing machinery

C.D. Dodd has innovatively adapted existing technologies for the oil and gas decommissioning sector. Our custom-designed machinery eliminates the need for manual cutting, significantly reducing human intervention and enhancing safety and efficiency. This cross-industry application sets a new benchmark for dismantling operations in Australia, demonstrating our commitment to advancing industry standards.

3. Commitment to local economic development

Our projects have generated significant economic benefits for local communities. We have prioritised hiring a local workforce at both the Onslow and Karratha facilities and have contributed millions to the local economy through the construction of these facilities. Importantly, these developments have been conducted with minimal impact on the surrounding communities, as our operations are located at a considerable distance from residential areas.
